So my son is a night owl. He’s about to start college in a two months and he’s staying up way too late to play video games. I don’t mind. He’s an adult and can do what he wants, but he has to get up for work a couple times a week, drive a car, and be productive. Correction. Drive *my* car and be productive. He was staying up until 2am and then getting up at 6:30am. During his “off” days, he stays up even later. Sleeping until noon or 1pm.
I’m torn that I’m being a helicopter parent, but screw that. I set the parental controls on the network to turn off the Internet at 1am. It’s not good for your body to have swinging schedules like that. I hate to be this way but for the next two months, he is under my direct care and I’m going to play the “Dad Card”. I’m not going to have him hurt someone because he was drowsy driving.
When he goes off to college, it’s up to him to do the right thing. If he can’t work out a system that works for him, then he’ll bonk out of college and land back at my door. I pity him if that is to happen. I’ll turn off his Internet at 5pm then. Yes, I’m vengeful that way.
We will see what happens but I’m not going to take his schedule anymore.
